Examination Speed for Trademark Application in Japan
According to the data published by Japan Patent Office (JPO), FA (First Action) term and TP (Total Pendency) term, which are used as an indicator of examination speed for trademark applications, from 2012 to 2016 in Japan are shown as below.
- FA term in 2016 became longer than that in recent years due to increasing the number of filing trademark applications.
- So far, JPO has made a great effort to have FA term shorter to satisfy requests from applicants. But, JPO says that they are trying to keep an average of FA term around 5 to 7 months for 2017.
